he Communist Party’s support to Dahal proves an end to the past rift created between the leader KP Oli and Mr Dahal.
Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as Prachanda (meaning The Fierce One) is appointed as the new Prime Minister of Nepal.
Last month fears were predicted of yet another hung parliament due to unclear results in National elections. However, the President’s office made an announcement claiming Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the Prime Minister.
Dahal led a violent Maoist communist insurgency from 1996-2006 where more than 17,000 people were killed, and several injured.
The Communist Party of Nepal (United M-L) and six other parties are already in support of the newly appointed PM. The Communist Party’s support to Dahal proves an end to the past rift created between the leader KP Oli and Mr Dahal. The post-election union established by Mr KP Oli and Prime Minister Dahal astonished everyone, including Nepal’s close neighbours, China and India.
Before the elections, Dahal said in an interview with The Associated Press that his main objective to run for office was to stabilise the government in the country in one five-year term.
Mr Dahal has more than 50% of the members of the House of Representatives supporting him. After his oath-taking ceremony he is expected to prove his majority in the house with 275 members.
