*Looking forward to the time when India would be genuinely again called “Soney ki Chidiya”.*
As we celebrated 78th years of independence of India, we still have to do lot towards the betterment of Indian society. If we would be able to make our society safe for each and every human being then only we would be able to pay actual respect to the sacrifices done by our great freedom fighters.
We should be prudent enough to understand that a crime is crime, be it bullying or rape, from micro level only we have to identify and stop any kind of abuse or harassment (verbal and physical both). As a kid the predators have less severe traits which if identified on time and stopped can help check further loss in society, this can save a person from being a victim.
Bullying a kid and torturing and compelling a kid to take such a step where the entire family is at a loss needs to be punished irrespective of age, similarly the incident which took place with a 31 year old post graduate doctor in West Bengal, requires immediate justice. The 31 year old victim was raped and murdered inside a seminar hall of the RG Kar hospital, Kolkata. A civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy was arrested in the case. This incident led to country wide protest by the doctors demanding justice for the victim. The protestors even demanded the resignation of CM Mamata Banerjee, who is also in charge of State’s Health and Home Minister.
The incident shook us and straight away shows that we have to go a long way to prove we actually have learnt from our mistakes. Hardly it’s been 12 years of Nirbhaya case, we now again encountered a same shameful act in 2024. It is found that the 31 year old got extensive injuries.
According to the autopsy report the injuries were present before death. The report also indicated sexual assault. It’s been 9th day of doctor’s strike for demand of implementing central law on safety of medics working at hospitals.
The Supreme Court has ordered the CBI to submit a status report by 22nd August. It has further ordered the removal of name, photos and videos of the trainee doctor of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital from media platforms. A bench headed by Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said disclosure of the identity of victim of sexual assault is a violation of the order passed in the Nipun Saxena case, PTI reported.
The apex court questioned the West Bengal government on the delay that occurred during filling the FIR. The autopsy took place at about 9:45 pm but the FIR was filed at 11:45 pm, so what were the hospital authorities doing for three hours, the court noted. Further the court also questioned about the law and order scenario at the crime scene.
This kind of examples can be seen in our scriptures also. Ravana dared to kidnap mother Sita but ended up losing his life plus his entire Kingdom and everything. We should take lessons from our scriptures. Those people who are voicing against this incident should have enough courage to voice against even a smallest of a crime may be which has taken place in a neighbourhood. Later we can think of changing the nation. Shouldn’t we look inside and ask our conscience whether we are doing right or wrong…
